Anonymous said: how can I stretch my legs specifically for the splits and I'm halfway there!
specific stretches:
-runners stretch

try to keep your front knee bent at a 90 degree angle, though.
-hangover

you can also try this with both legs straight, standing.
-laying down & pulling your legs in

you might also want to have someone push that leg down for you to help out.
-lean forward when you’re in your split to try to get your chest on your leg, and afterwards arch your back to stretch the other way.
-oversplits! when all else fails, try oversplits on a textbook or something. it’ll give you a great stretch (: good luck, and remember: the more you stretch, the faster you’ll achieve your splits!

Anonymous said: I want to train my splits at home but I have to warm up before i do. Do you have any ideas what i can do for warming up at home? :))
if you’ve taken dance classes before, then just follow through the warm up process as if you normally would in a dance class. if not, then go through all of your body parts one by one. neck rolls, then shoulders, arms, open up the back, do straddles & stretch and reach left/right/center. do the stretches for splits before the sitting into a split. make sure your muscles are nicely warmed up, for about 10 to 15 minutes before going into your splits. (:

Anonymous said: Middle split stretches?
do the straddle as far as you can (feet pointed, knees straight & turned out!) and try to get your chest on the floor. this directly targets the muscles & you’ll feel the pull.
also, go into your straddle & then push yourself up off the floor and “hang over” it and hold that.
do it against the wall with your back on the floor and legs facing the wall and just lay there. gravity helps push your legs down without you doing much! (:
try to rock foward when you’re in your straddle, go a bit further every 15 seconds or so.
stretch as often as you can! thats the best advice i can give you because that is how you can any part of your body more flexible (:

Anonymous said: turn out/hip flexibility?
-Plies in second position (keep your knees turned out!)
-Butterfly stretch, have someone push you down, push your knees down, etc (this helps me SO much!)
-Try the froggy. All you do is lay on your stomach and put your legs in a butterfly like position behind you. Try pushing your legs out as far as you can, but don’t hurt yourself! You can also try rotating one foot at a time turning it in and out while staying if your froggy position.
-Go into a straddle/middle split, make sure your knees are turned out and feet pointed, and have someone gently push you down. KEEP YOUR KNEES TURNED OUT.
-Go into a straddle against the wall.

Anonymous said: How can I get my ponche flat? Also how do I gain more flexibility in my hips, because every time I do an extension my hips pop in and out and I think it's because they are so stiff. I'm not sure though. xx
a 180 degree ponche has a lot to go with hamstring flexibility as well as back strength. do wall stretches or oversplits for your hamstring flexibility.
some back exercises are holding arabesques & superman pose (you lay on your stomach and lift up your arms and legs. You can make it a little harder by alternating between opposite arm and leg.)
another method i heard of was to get to the highest ponche you can, put your hands on the floor, letting your back down, and pushing your leg to the 180 degree position with your muscles.
hip flexibility exercises:
-plies in second position (keep your knees turned out!)
-butterfly stretch, have someone push you down, push your knees down, etc (this helps me SO much!)
-go into a straddle/middle split, make sure your knees are turned out and feet pointed, and have someone gently push you down. KEEP YOUR KNEES TURNED OUT.

i think every body is beautiful and there are dancers in all sizes. you can be an amazing dancer without being skinny as a stick, and i won’t give out tips on being thinner because i believe it doesn’t affect your dancing at all <3 you’re all fucking perfect, body wise, the way you are. :’)
